How Star Oil Group unified its operations across 5 countries with the CYNOD solution

Context & challenges
STAR OIL GROUP is a pan-African petroleum group present in Senegal, Mauritania, Mali, Niger, Chad, The Gambia, Guinea Conakry and Côte d’Ivoire.
Historically, each subsidiary used different payment solutions, which made the following difficult:
• Harmonising practices
• Consolidation and financial steering at group level
In 2019, head office decided to adopt CYNOD to unify payment management, modernise services and secure transactions.
The ambition: to have a single, reliable and scalable platform that harmonises processes and centralises visibility over financial flows across every subsidiary.
Project objectives
- Harmonise payment management tools and practices across every subsidiary.
- Secure and track financial flows end to end.
- Deploy a multi-country solution suited to local specifics.
- Guarantee service continuity through strategic acquisition and migration projects.

Client testimonial
“Since CYNOD was rolled out, we have harmonised our processes and secured our financial flows across several countries. The platform finally gives us consolidated visibility and operational continuity during our acquisitions.”
The solution
- CYNOD rolled out from 2019 in Senegal, followed by:
- Niger (2022),
- Chad (2023),
- The Gambia (2024),
- Guinea Conakry (2025),
- Côte d’Ivoire and Mauritania (under way).
- Features deployed as standard: cards, secure fuel vouchers, transaction codes, electronic wallet.
- A major project: complex migrations during the acquisition of Total Énergies networks in Niger and Chad, including:
- transfer of the client base,
- carrying over transactions,
- operational continuity for the staff in place.
- The wallet introduced (2023) in the subsidiaries already running CYNOD.
- The platform taken international: language adaptation (FR/EN) and account taken of local specifics.
Results & benefits
- Rapid adoption despite the 2019 start, thanks to the leverage across subsidiaries.
- Greater transaction security and better financial traceability.
- Consolidated visibility for head office, thanks to reports that are consistent across countries.
- Strategic migrations (Niger, Chad) completed successfully to tight deadlines.
- A gradual ramp-up: each new subsidiary builds on the experience of those before it.
Why this matters for you
This project shows how a multi-country organisation can turn complexity into competitive advantage by:
- Centralising its financial visibility and harmonising its practices,
- Securing flows and making them more reliable while respecting local specifics,
- Completing sensitive migrations to tight deadlines. For any other multi-site or multi-country player, this experience shows that a robust, unified platform can speed up modernisation, improve client satisfaction and strengthen the ability to absorb new acquisitions.
